OVHC Rain Preparations

It will not rain, it will not rain .. but just in case, we have a plan !

We’re expecting the sun to shine on beautiful Ōamaru this week, but nothing is written is stone. 

If adverse weather forces a cancellation of any event, you’ll be notified as soon as possible.

- 𝑮𝒂𝒓𝒅𝒆𝒏 𝑷𝒂𝒓𝒕𝒚 - 9:00 am Friday 17 November. Pre-sold refreshment tickets will be refunded

- 𝑹𝒐𝒎𝒂𝒏𝒕𝒊𝒄 𝑰𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒍𝒖𝒅𝒆𝒔 - No cancellation. In case of rain, will move indoors on Harbour Street.

- 𝑮𝒓𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑺𝒕𝒓𝒆𝒆𝒕 𝑷𝒂𝒓𝒂𝒅𝒆 - No cancellation. If marchers show up,we will proceed in the rain. The show will go on !

- 𝑯𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒕𝒂𝒈𝒆 𝑪𝒚𝒄𝒍𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑪𝒉𝒂𝒎𝒑𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔𝒉𝒊𝒑𝒔 - 12:00 noon Saturday 18 November

- 𝑽𝒊𝒄𝒕𝒐𝒓𝒊𝒂𝒏 𝑭𝒆𝒕𝒆 - No cancellation. In the event of rain, stalls will be indoors, with entertainers in the Scottish Hall

When you start planning early, there are bound to be some changes.  And new events often get added long after the brochure has gone to print. So please check here for updates, especially as we get closer to the day.

New Events

The 'Star of Tasmania' Explored

From Aberdeen to Oamaru and back again.  Natalie Wilson and Marshall Watt will present their research on the clipper, the Star of Tasmania, wrecked off Oamaru during a  great storm in February 1868. Hear about the ship, the lives of the people involved and what remains.

Date: Friday 17 November

Time: 5:00 pm.  We envisage 40-45 mins talk, plus time for discussion

Venue: Whitestone City, 12 Harbour St Oamaru

Cost: Free

Laurence Arabia at the Grainstore Gallery

Quirky indie pop from New Zealand artist and composer, aka James Milne. In an equally quirky art gallery - come early to admire.

Date: Friday 17 November

Time: 7:30 pm.  

Venue: Grainstore Gallery, 5 Harbour St Oamaru

Cost:  $25 (+ booking fees); $30 at the door  Book Tickets here

Fallow Farm cottage tour: Visit a beautifully restored 1862 cottage and surrounding gardens near Herbert. The owners have reluctantly listed their property for sale, and their agent will be holding three one hour open days during the Victorian Heritage celebrations. If you are planning to attend one of the Totara Estate or Clarks Mill events, you’re already halfway there!

Changes to Venues or Schedules:

A few associates have made changes to venues or times, as follows. 

  • Filipino Culture and Migration Display – Change of venue to Customs House Gallery, 29 Tyne Street, Oamaru.  Times and Dates remain the same.

  • Promenade the Precinct Walking Tour – change of date/time. The tour planned for Friday 17 November, 1:00 pm has been moved to Thursday 16 November.  New Dates/times are:

    • Thursday 16 November 2023 12:00 PM - 12:45 PM

    • Thursday 16 November 2023 2:00 PM - 2:45 PM

    • Friday 17 November 2023 11:00 AM - 11:45 AM

  • Clarks Flour Mill Guided Tour - change of date shown in print booklet from Friday 17 November to Thursday, 16 November, 10:00 am-1:00 pm.  The tour on Sunday, 19 November 1:00-3:00 pm remains unchanged.

  • Breaking Up the Big Estates Tours postponed until after 19 November.  To be informed of the new date, please contact helenstead187@gmail.com or join the online Wait List.

Cancellations

Sadly, illness has caused the following cancellations:

  • Friday, 17 November 5:30: Settlers' Stories from the Edwin Fox

  • Saturday 18 November 4:30 and 8:00; Sunday morning: Sprit Sing! Salvation Army National Choir
