The OVHC Committee coordinates and promotes Heritage Week, and runs key events, including the Garden Party, Victorian morning tea, Street Parade, Heritage Cycle Races, Fashion Show and Ceilidh.
An additional 60-plus events are run by “associate” groups and clubs, (such as Culture Waitaki, Oamaru Repertory Theatre, local churches, enthusiast groups and service clubs). The Committee coordinates the full programme, and handles advertising and promotion.
We are looking for new Committee members with ideas about how to make the Celebrations work best for Oamaru, and how the programme could be expanded.
You’d be joining a friendly and supportive Committee with experienced members, a healthy bank balance, processes and procedures in place, and good relationships with service clubs and other groups. Committee members shape their own role, depending on their interests and what’s needed.
The Committee meets every 2-4 weeks, as needed, and meetings normally last 60-90 minutes. At meetings, we set plans and agree priorities, and members volunteer to take on specific tasks.
You are welcome to attend a Committee meeting to see how we operate.
If you don’t want to join a Committee, but would like to be involved in some way, we'd love to hear from you. There are lots of small ways to help out, and many hands do make light work come November.
