Adults $20, Students $6, Children Free, Heritage NZ members Free. No bookings necessary.
You will find many references to industry and the Mill in Victorian Literature but you are more likely to find ‘Green and pleasant Land” rather than ‘Dark Satanic Mills” when you visit this extraordinary flour mill today. Built around 1866 as part of the growing entrepreneurial business of the Scottish owners of Totara Estate, the limestone building was rebuilt in the late 1970s by the then Historic Places Trust (now Heritage New Zealand) and the machinery restored by a team of volunteers. Many of those volunteers will be on hand today to guide you around the four floors of machinery, wheels and belts, and then there will be opportunity to see it in action.
